Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer – Open Pit Mining Operations (metal)

Job Summary:
The company is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in mining operations to join their team. This role involves conducting geotechnical assessments and providing geotechnical engineering solutions to support safe and efficient mining activities. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in mining or civil engineering, specifically within a geotechnical engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Geotechnical Assessments and Monitoring:
- Perform site investigations, rock mass classifications, and rock/ soil stability analyses.
- Monitor slope stability, surface structures and instrumentation data analysis to ensure safety.
- Knowledge on material properties and lab testing of rock mass/ soil.
- Design and Engineering Solutions:
- Design and analyze mine structures such as pit slopes, waste dumps, tailings storage facilities, and other excavations.
- Provide recommendations for slope stabilizations, drainage, and excavation methods.
- Develop strategies for risk mitigation related to geotechnical hazards.
- Regulatory Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all designs and recommendations comply with local, state, and federal mining regulations.
- Support the implementation of geotechnical monitoring programs to prevent failures.
- Promote safety by adhering to and enforcing company and industry standards.
- Collaboration and Project Support:
- Work closely with mining engineers, planners, and environmental teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into operational planning.
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, schedules, and resource allocation for geotechnical activities.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and site teams.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare detailed technical reports, designs, and analyses for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of all geotechnical data and monitoring results.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mining/Civil Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on mining or resource extraction projects.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Skills:
- Proficiency in geotechnical and mining software (e.g. RocScience Suite, Flac, Vulcan, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
